1 geography
- egypt is centered around the nile river
- it flows from south to north
- 3 branches of the nile
- nile is over 4000 miles long
- this water was very important for Egyptians
- used water for drinking
- irrigating
- bathing
- first people in the world to invent a sailboat
- every july the river floods
- every October it leaves rich soil called silt
- the delta is a marshy triangular area of fertile soil ( the greek letter for d is delta and in the shape of a triangle )
- one most significant break through is irrigation
2 Pyramids
- the great sphinx of Giza built 2555 - 2532 BC
- sphinx is a recumbent lion with a human head
- oldest monument in the world around 4500 years old
3 Daily Life
- Pharoh - king
- gov. officials - Nobles & priest -white kilt class
- soldiers
- scribes - knew how to write there are not many of them
- merchant- middle class, barter system
- artisan- make stuff
- farmers - dirty poor
