Spartans were most feared for infantry. Infantry is when you fight on the land. They wore red so that when people would become wounded you would not be able to see the blood. The spartans were so focused on having warriors that if there was a child that would have a disability. The spartans were very into them being one group.
Athens had the best army. They used a trireme greatest weapon at the time. Ir was very fast and long It had three oars and used many people. The trime could easily destroy other ships. Then there was the phalanx which was like a tank made of humans.
Everything that Socrates questioned he used science and logic. He was the creator of the socratic method. He was charged for coruppting the young minds of athens and disrespecting the Gods. He said that they got it wrong and that he should be rewarded and not punished because he was helping Athens. He drank hemlock and that was his punishment.
Plato was a student of socrates. Plato is the reason that we know so much about socrates. plato wrote the republic and the apology.
Aristotle was a student of plato. He had a school called the lysium which was focused on research. aristotle tutored alex the great. Aristotle wrote about many different topics.

Some aristocrats would be ostracized from the club or even the city state. that is when we learned about hippias. he used to run the city state until he got kicked out and then to get back at the athenians he partnered with Persia and attacked them

For the cyber day assignment i choose Socrates.
Socrates had a very interesting life. He died from Hemlock Poising. Socrates father was a sculpture and his mother was a midwife. As a child Socrates only received a basic teaching. Socrates as a philosopher received payment. Socrates had three sons. Socrates was a soldier according to Plato. Socrates as a philosopher recognized that human choice was motivated by happiness. The socratic method is to help influence thinking and ideas. Socrates asks many many questions about a topic so that you would eventually knew more.

Today in class we finished the unit. The Nile river was a major life provider for the egyptians. Upper Egypt was was 500 miles. Lower egypt was very wide. The pharaoh was a human on earth but was thought of as a God. The pharaohs could be fired however. Egyptians relied on harmony and balance of the universe which they called maat. if they wanted ti do well i life you would be on the pharaohs good side. In Egypt woman had respect and a type of equality. Woman could inherit money and land and divorce their husbands. There were even a few women pharaohs. Heiroglyphs type of writing was like pictures. Hieratics were more like groups of letters. hieratics were origanilly written on papyrus. Papyrus was like a type of paper that was put in those huge scrolls. They made a 365 day calendar that followed the moon scale. Egyptians noticed things that should be planned out and prepared. Egyptians were very big on human anatomy. The used the dead bodies to find out remedies and cures. Wooden sail boats helped transport things up the Nile and you to go both ways on the Nile. Pyramids were very large they were covered in marble. Thousands of years later they are still standing and must have been engineered perfectly. stone sculptures and interior paintings in regulated poses in profile. people lived in adobes. slaves werent the only people to build a pyramid.

in the first video it talks about the pyramids and how they have shiny plates over them. There was a big stone that if you moved led to the grave. but finding the stone that moved proved to be very hard so the leader decided to just cut open a hole in the pyramid to get to the tomb. There was no treasure in the pyramids when the royal got in and there was a sarchophogis that didn't have a lid. There are many passages and rooms in the great pyramid. especially since it is just supposed to be a tomb. there is a queens chamber and then another room and it called the subterranean chamber because it is underneath the pyramid. there is a corridor that has a gallery and at the end of the corridor there is a passage that leads to the grotto. There are also shafts an they point north and south. The entrance remains sealed to this very day.
in the second video it starts of with a mummy of a man named heiriclyties and he died in Egypt in the first century he was around 20 years old. Mummification is so that you can preserve the body and the internal organs are taken out except the heart. but in this man the heart was removed and the lungs were in tact. the body was put in salt until all moisture was eliminated. perfume oils were rubbed on the body. and thick layers of resin were used to glue the wrapping strips. there was a mysterious pouch placed on the chest and there was an ibis and the bird was mummified with the human. there was a arge linen cloth wrapped around the mummy and there were paintings on the cloth and his name was written at the feet. due to this mummification process the body is with us today.
in the third video it is john greene talking about egypt. ancient egypt was probably the most influencial on the ancient river valley. The ancient egyptian civilization lasted from 3000 BCE to 332 BCE. the nile was regular and navigable and left very good silt for planting season. egyptian civilizatuons only excisted on the nile. the nile used basin irrigation. So the egyptians got to mke surplus amount sof food and didnt have to do alot of work. the pharoh was very close to a god and was expected to act like a god. rhe pyramids show a lot of controll of the social population. The pyramids were built by alot of peasants and slaves. Since the pharohs were thought of as gods they deserved the best living places. but when draughts started pharohs started and an intermediate period. Hidden gods tend to do well because they are omnipresent and many people devoted their lives to these gods.there was a group that conquered all of egyptians and then they became parts of the egyptians and the the egyptians exiled them. there was on pharoh that was a woman and expanded egypt the most. there was a pharoh that is very similar to kim jung il and he tried to create a new god.

2/20/15 Cyber day assignment
The Egyptians have made many inventions. Part of being a great civilization was having technology. Here are some of the inventions in order from importance. I think the most important technology development was Egyptian medicine. They were the first to use magic and medicine men. The Egyptians had a document and talked about the organs. They did bisectimies and put all the body organs in jars, where they also preserved spices. Doing work like that they learned alot about the human body. Another Egyptian break through was the Egyptian Astronomy. The Egyptians developed a 365 day calendar. The calendar had the days divided into 12 months with around 30 days. The Egyptians also invented stone circles and sun dails that showed that they knew about time. The sundail was used to make days. The Egyptians also were very into astronomy. Many of their buildings were aligned with stars and constellations. The Pyramids were located to reflect constellations and monuments were to reflect the cardinal directions and important times of the year. The Egyptians also invented the bed. The first bed was a shallow chest with bedding placed over top and to try to make it soft consisted with ropes stretched across a wooden frame. In their bed they slept and entertained socially and ate.

friday january 6
today we finished watching the video. Mr.Diamond decided in the end of the movie that the only reason the new guineans have not evolved is because they were not geographically blessed; they do not live the fertile crescent with good farm land and alot of sources of food with good animals that could be domesticated. they live in the middle of the rainforest with very little food sources with food that you can actually have a good diet with. the only animals they have is pigs that are not good farm animals.

Jared diamond wrote a book called guns, germs and steel. this video was about papa new guinea and how many of the people there act like it is still the stone age. The people do not wear alot of clothes. and do not have a lot of material goods. one man in this video walks up to jared and asks him "why do you white men have so much cargo but us new guenians have none" and that question really got jared to start thinking. the whitemen that first started visiting when they came and realized they had much more stuff then people from new guinea they instantly started feeling more superior. Diamond noticed that all great civilizations have three thngs in common advanced technology, large populations, well organizd work fare. then the video started comparing new guinea to one of the first ever civilizations called draa
